Lepchajagat - 'the World of Lepchas' is a small village just 20 kms from Darjeeling, in North Bengal. It is situated at an altitude of 6956 feet. As the name suggests, the village is actually a Lepcha stronghold, which has since been transformed into a forest reserve. Lepchajagat is ideal for those tourists who are trying to take a diversion from the hustle and bustle of the Darjeeling main town. Not only does it offer stunning greenery of Oak, Pine, Rhododendron forest and snow-capped mountain views, but birdwatchers will be thrilled with the amazing variety of Himalayan birds that inhabit Lepchajagat. In the evening, the magical view of Darjeeling town from the forest bungalow is an added gift to the tourists. Visitors who are visiting Darjeeling also have the option of combining their tour of Darjeeling with Lepchajagat for added variation, at a little extra cost.
The tourists who wish to visit Lepchajagat may travel towards Darjeeling via car or bus and then get down at Ghoom, from where several shared cars are available to Lepchajagat.
