Ross Island, about 2 km east of Port Blair was the old Administrative Headquarters for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands until a major earthquake hit this island in 1941. The head-quarters were then shifted to Port Blair. The remnants of a luxurious past can be seen in the ruins of the church, the chief commissioner's palatial residence with huge gardens, grand ballrooms and swimming pool. The food found here also has the region’s influence and a must try.
