Zuluk, the tourist hotspot of Sikkim, was an important place in East Sikkim in ancient times that connected India with Tibet. However, with the development of new travel routes, Zuluk has evolved as a tourist destination and a photographer’s paradise, considering the immense beauty that can be seen and captured among the Eastern Himalayas.
The Silk Route is the main attraction of Zuluk. However, if you’re planning a first-time trip to these mountains, here are a few things you need to know that can make your journey unforgettable.
It would help if you reached Gangtok first before travelling to Zuluk. It takes around 4 hours by road to reach the place. You can stop at Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir before reaching there. Again, for travellers thinking of reaching Zuluk directly from NJP, the car fares are quite affordable and can be availed easily. However, from NJP and Bagdogra airport, you will need, on average, 6 hours to reach your destination.
This is a small picturesque village located on the Indo-Tibetian border, and hence, for military and security reasons, the cars entering Zuluk must issue permits. Hence, if you’re not travelling with a tour operator, you should get the permit issues beforehand.
Also, remember to bring proof of your valid ID and a photograph for security purposes. You can easily ask for a car permit at Rangli and Gangtok.
This viewpoint is located at an altitude of around 11,000 feet above sea level and gives a perfect view of the zigzag roads of the Silk Route. If you are suffering from breathing issues, this is not a feasible location for you. From this viewpoint, you can also see the original Silk Route, which was once the trading route of India.
If you are travelling in the winter, Nathang Valley is an ideal location. The valley looks amazing after snowfall, and you can enjoy adventurous snow sports like skiing and snowboarding there. However, you might experience problems staying at Nathang Valley because there are fewer accommodations available there.
Kupup is located around 5 km from the Nathang valley. There, you will see a lake known as the Elephant Lake or Hati Lake, which looks like an elephant. You can also view the highest golf course there, which is managed by the Indian army.
For first-time travellers, it is wise to choose Spring Vale Resorts for a customised trip to Silk Route and Zuluk. We will check the available time and set the perfect itinerary for you.
